Nostalgic for the 90’s
It’s no denying that everyone is nostalgic for the 90’s, anything from fashion to makeup, everyone seems to want that oh so natural complexion, flushed checks, defined browns and dark, vampy lips. Clinique’s Black Honey lipstick has remained a best-selling shade since its launch in 1989, selling one every 3 minutes in the US and is their number 1 selling shade in 2014. A precise blend of blue, red, orange and yellow pigments are mixed together in a sheer base to create the perfect, unique shade that’s suitable for all women. So what do you get when you take Clinique’s cult favourite lipstick shade in Black Honey and mix it with this season’s hottest trend colour, purple…… Clinique A Black Honey Affair Eyeshadow Palette, of course. What better way to celebrate this season’s nod to 90’s than with a mixture of sultry shades inspired by Black Honey lipstick and rich, smoky purples to create a truly stunning luxe fall eye look. This limited edition Clinique A Black Honey Affair Eyeshadow Palette is exclusively available at Sephora for only $40.
Clinique A Black Honey Affair Eyeshadow Palette comes packaged in the same sleek, silver, mirrored compact with full length mirror on the inside lid and a dual-ended sponge/brush applicator as the Clinique 16 Shades of Beige Collection, but with a mixture of 8 warm and cool browns and purples. Each shade is rich and creamy, applies evenly and beautifully to the eyelid and is extremely buildable. Each shade is highly pigmented with true opaque colour payoff in a single swipe. Its soft and smooth texture is easy to blend and doesn’t crease, smudge or fade for the entire day. The first 4 neutral shades can be worn together or alone to help create the perfect nude daytime look, whereas the following 4 purple shades can be paired with the neutral hues to add a pop of colour to the look or even layered together to create a dramatic, smoky violet look.
I truly think this Clinique A Black Honey Affair Eyeshadow Palette will be universally flattering on all complexions and skin tones and gives endless possibilities to an array of different looks. Each shade can be worn alone for a sophisticated daytime look or layered together for a more dramatic, smoky nighttime look. It’s no wonder why this palette was built around Black Honey, not only does this gorgeous shade work well on its own, it pairs equally as beautiful with every shade in this collection. It’s so pretty, I think I might need to pick up the individual shade of it, as I’m going through it fairly quickly. Even though each shade is so soft and smooth, it’s not powdery and I didn’t experience any fallout. When paired with my favourite primer, it lasted on the eyelid for a solid 10+ hours without fading. This palette is truly versatile and each shade complements each other beautifully, leaving you reaching for it day after day.
Clinique A Black Honey Affair Eyeshadow Palette contains 8 beautiful shades, Sugar Cane is a creamy white with silver shimmer throughout it that’s perfect to brighten up the inside corner eye. Hazy is a stunning cool taupe that reminds me a lot of my favourite Mac Satin Taupe that’s the perfect everyday nude shade. Black Honey, the showstopper for me, is a warm, coppery brown with hints of purple depending on the way the light hits the eye. Lucky Penny is a shimmery, light peach that almost shows up pink on the skin and is the perfect blending shade. Dark Brown Shade of Morning Java Quad is a blackened burgundy with a slight shimmer to it that’s perfect for adding warmth and contrast to the look. Purple Pumps is an extremely bright medium purple with subtle shimmer throughout with a matte finish. Lavender Out Loud is a light, shimmery lavender that looks beautiful paired with Purple Pumps and Black Honey and with a satin finish. Graphite is a cool grey with hints of purple shimmer that gives it almost a metallic feel.
Clinique The Almost Lipstick in Black Honey comes in a sleek and slender silver tube, giving it the same feel as the Clinique A Black Honey Affair Eyeshadow Palette. Although it looks extremely dark and a little scary in the tube, it’s actually extremely wearable and sheerer once applied to the lips. It has a lightweight, almost balmy texture that applies evenly and smoothly to the lips. Although not highly pigmented, it does provide a sheer wash of colour in a beautiful crushed berry/ wine shade. It complements your natural lip colour and I can see this being universally flattering on all skin tones. It helps you achieve that bold, vampy, 90’s look without being too dramatic. It applies like butter, is smooth, soft and creamy and keeps lips hydrated throughout the day. It gives the lips the perfect amount of shiny, glossy finish that lasts a solid 5 hours before fading. It retails for $19.
