Gingerbread Homes

If you’re ever on your way to Toronto or Niagara Falls, be sure to stop by Grimsby, Ontario (located between Stoney Creek and St. Catherine’s). Just off the QEW, hidden amongst lakeshore, you’ll find Grimsby Historic Beach. A colourful neighbourhood, that’s been around since the 1800’s, filled with cotton-candy, pastel cottages. These enchanting homes line the lake of Lake Ontario and totally worth the drive to visit. Just be respectful, as these are people’s home and they take pride in up-keeping them.

Take exit 68 (Bartlett Ave North) and head towards the lake. Turn left onto Lake and then right onto Betts. You’d swear you fell down the rabbit hole into a magical land of make-believe. It’s like something straight out of a fairytale storybook. The series of narrow lands are lined with Victorian gingerbread cottages that just scream photograph me. We got the chance to chat with many of the owners, who’s homes are often referred to as something out of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or Alice in Wonderland.

Although you may not see the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat or Oompa Loompas, Grimsby Beach is magical on its own.
