Primers for all skin types 

We all know the importance of a skin primer, it helps to create a smooth surface for our foundation to adhere to and it also helps to prolong the wear time, but not all primers are created equally and not all are designed for your specific skin tone and texture. The new Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer helps to create a flawless complexion with 10 specially designed primers that target and perfect all skin styles. You’re probably now asking yourself, how is this different than any other primer I use, besides the special ingredients? Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer are divided into 2 different skin equalizing categories, for both texture and tone. Yes, you’ll be applying two separate primers, instead of one, which will be customized to your skin concerns and needs. Five are designed to address texture, related to skin issues like oil and shine, large pores, fine lines, dryness and redness, whereas the other five primes help to boost radiance in specific skin tones.

While I was never one to skip a primer, the thought of applying another product to my face in the morning had me a little worried. Sure it only takes a few seconds, but we all know how valuable our time is in the morning. I attended an event where we got to learn all about these truly innovated primers. When I was first introduced to these, I was taught not to think of these as an extra step in my makeup application, yet as an added benefit to my skin care routine, which had me sold immediately. I received a one on one consultation from one of their head makeup artists to go over my skin concerns. With so many options to choose from, a Mattifying Primer to help reduce shine and oiliness, a Smoothing Primer to help even out skin texture, a Hydrating Primer to restore skin’s balance, Nourishing Primer to help retain moisture and Redness Correcting Primer to help neutralize the skin. Out of these 5 primers that help to target skin’s texture, it was clear to me which one I wanted/ need. The Nourishing Primer was clearly the best choice for me, since I’ve been suffering from extremely dry skin this winter. It is specifically designed with H₂O Complex to provide moisture which transforms dehydrated skin into a supple, healthy, plump surface for a flawless makeup all day long.

It was then on to the remaining 5 primers, the ones that were targeted for your skin’s tone. Radiant Primer Blue which will add a touch of radiance to those with lighter skin, Radiant Primer Pink which will help to add radiance to those with medium skin, Radiant Primer Yellow to add radiance to those with light to medium skin, Radiant Primer Peach which adds radiance to those with medium to tan skin and Radiant Primer Caramel to add radiance to darker skin tones. I, of course, went with the Radiant Primer Blue for my pale, white skin.

All Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizers have an extremely lightweight, creamy texture that applies to the skin with ease. You would start with a pea size amount of the texture primer, before applying the same pea size amount of the radiant primer over top. Both seem to absorb fairly quickly, without feeling thick, heavy or oily. It really doesn’t even feel like you’re applying two products. Like all good primers, it will also help to prolong the wear time of any makeup you apply overtop. Each primer retails for $43 for 1oz.

The Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Nourishing Primer, however, is more of a moisturizer than a primer, yet feels incredibly light. It absorbs into the skin within seconds with a clean and refreshing scent. The fine lines around my eyes were less prominent and it definitely nourished and hydrated the skin. I had less dry patches, less flakiness and it didn’t emphases the dryness when I applied my foundation. It left a smooth and soft surface without feeling greasy or oily. My skin was supple, healthier looking, and even looked a little fuller/ plump. My makeup just glided onto the skin.

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Radiant Primer Blue instantly colour corrected to my pale skin and brought in more light to my face. It helped to neutralize imperfections and banish dull areas around my face, even before foundation. It gives immediate radiance and evens out my skin tone for a flawless makeup application. It also seemed to help blur imperfections and also reduce redness around the nose. It did a wonderful job at brightening my overall skin tone, and lightening up my hyperpigmentation and dark spots, which means I had to apply less concealer.
