First up, boxy cropped sweaters and jackets. If you would have told me a few seasons ago, I’d be styling cropped anything, I would have said you were nuts. But here we are, still going strong with crop-tops. This season it’s all about oversized though. You get the comfort of a regular sweater, thanks to its boxy shape, but with the benefits of showing off your waist and figure thanks to its shortness. The problem I usually have with boyfriend-style clothing, is that I tend to get lost in the fabric. The nice thing about cropped pieces, is that you can wear it with high-waisted pants and skirts, but still emphasize a waist and create curve.

As for denim, it has nothing to do with the cut, style or fit, and all to do about the wash. Think pre-loved and pre-washed black denim. Once popular in the 90’s, it’s making a huge comeback this season. It’s not quite-grey, it’s not-quite black, it has almost a vintage wash to it, in the best way possible. It will pair perfectly with all your fall colour palettes and will make any outfit look chic. For those who often shy away from dark clothing, in fear of it washing them out, this will be a perfect alternative for you. It’s not as stark as regular black jeans but instantly creates that effortless cool vibe effect.

I know some will say, animal print never really goes out of style, as they consider it a neutral. Whether you agree with that or not, it’s all about animal prints this season. No matter your preference, cheetah, zebra, leopard print, dalmatian print, the list goes on… it’s all right on trend. From cardigans to belts, try incorporating at least one animal print item this season. It’s a sure way to keep you chic and current. If you’re not into tan, nudes or browns, snake prints are also a huge trend this season, and can often be found in black and white.

When it comes to outerwear, the hottest trend is the Shacket. What is that exactly? It’s a mix between a shirt and jacket. Keeping with the oversize theme from above, this is one piece you’re going to want to incorporate into your fall wardrobe. It can be styled in so many ways. From overtop of your fave little dress or even paired with a basic tee and denim, to more dressed up effect with faux leather pants and blouse, to even over your two-piece jogger set. The shacket can easily be worn from day to night, and from work to play. It’s one article of clothing that you will continue to reach for all season long.

I know we talked about an 90’s trend coming back into style, but we can’t forget another strong decade when it comes to style, and that’s the 80’s. Shoulder-pads are making a strong comeback, but are even bigger and bolder than before. The shoulder-pads are now supersized and right in your face. They instantly give you shape and more definition, while creating a bold statement in your look. I know these may seem overwhelming, but depending on the cut and style of the jacket or blazer you’re going for; it can create and provide real structure to your outfit.
