Red Wine with Cola
Nothing screams summer than enjoying a refreshing glass of wine on the beach. We’re lucky to have close friends that have a trailer right on the beach in Grand Bend, and this past weekend we spent the entire day with them sipping on MerloCola. For someone who’s not a wine connoisseur, this girly and unique blend of merlot and cola was absolutely delish. I can see this very popular European drink quickly becoming a fave for us Canadians. Not only is the bottle extremely adorable, its light, slightly sweet and refreshing drink is the perfect beverage for summer. Its 70% merlot content gives it a light and fruity taste, with the perfect combination of 30% natural flavours of Cola. It reminds me a lot of sangria, thanks to its aromas of cherry, plum and cinnamon. It is definitely closer to a wine than a pop, but is actually best served chilled, whereas your typical red wine is served at room temperature.
For someone who doesn’t particularly like the taste of wine, this is an excellent alternative. Mixing red wine and Cocoa Cola has been a huge trend in Europe for years and now you can enjoy this unusual combination in a convenient handy bottle, no mixing required. I have to say, this innovative and flavoured wine based drink is the perfect blend for summer. Merlocola can be found at your local LCBO for $8.80 a bottle.
