Boujee on a Budget
As much as we love to shop, most of us don’t have disposable income when it comes to shopping. We all want to look stylish and get the most bang for our buck. Although we may not have the freedom to buy what we want, when we want, you don’t necessarily have to break the bank to look fabulous.
My first tip is to know where to invest your money in. If jeans are a part of your everyday lifestyle, spending an extra few dollars on high-quality denim will be worth it for you. If it’s something you’re going to wear daily, shelling out a few extra bucks on something that’s going to last, will be worth its value in the long run. Spending extra money on pieces that you know are going to last for seasons ahead, that are going to hold their shape and that aren’t going to fall apart in the wash, are totally worth it.
Accessories are the perfect way to elevate an outfit and switch up your entire look without spending a lot. It’s a sure way to make even the most basic of outfits look expensive and interesting. From scarfs, earrings, statement necklaces, to bracelets, stacked rings and sunglasses, accessories are key when shopping on a tight budget. It’s a quick and easy way to add your own fashion flare to a look and make it truly one-of-a-kind and special.
Purchasing pieces in solid colours and without too much detail tend to look more expensive than they really are. As much as I love prints, patterns and textures, they can sometimes look outdated and cheap if not styled correctly. Instead, stick to basic pieces in block colours, like black, greys and navies with no embellishments, if you’re looking to create that high-end look on a budget. No matter how much you spend on them, they will look more expensive, even when they’re not. No one will be able to tell if you spent $10 or $500 on a black t-shirt, so opt for the more affordable option.
Don’t expect everything to fit you right off the rack. Investing in some quick tailoring can make the world of difference when it comes to your finished look. No two people are ever the same, so don’t feel bad if something doesn’t fit you perfectly. Spending that extra few dollars to get something taken in/or out, can be the difference between looking chic and put together, to looking drab and frumpy.
We all love designer pieces, but those usually come with a hefty price-tag. Instead, look for items inspired by those luxury brands, at more mainstream stores and retailors. Alexander Wang tends to make killer animal print booties, but not wanting to drop $1000+ on a pair, I went in search for other alternatives. I found these Nine West ones for 10% of the cost, and truthfully, no one can tell the difference.
