The blazer has been a wardrobe staple for decades, yet up until a few seasons ago, I only had a few in my collection. They sometimes can feel too stuffy, sophisticated and old school for my personal style. This fall we’re shaking things up, and switching out those form-fitting blazers, for super oversized ones. This is a fresh and modern way to take an otherwise classic and make it trendier. The great thing about an oversize blazer is that you can easily mix and match it with other pieces in your closet. Whether you’re looking to jazz up your little black dress for evening, opting for a full pantsuit for your office, or styling it with biker shorts and a basic tee for that instantly cool street-style effect, an oversize blazer will do the trick.
Although this first look may only be weather appropriate for the next few weeks, you can easily achieve that effortlessly chic vibe by tossing on a denim skirt and slogan tee. Of course, if you pair it with tights and ankle booties, you can easily transition this look into late fall. I love the juxtaposing between the dressy blazer and casual tee. The blazer acts as the perfect layering piece to keep you warm and cozy.
Keeping with the denim vibes, you of course can style an oversized blazer with all your favourite jeans. This is a personal fave. I especially love it with boyfriend, high-waisted denim, paired with a playful graphic tee. Although I don’t often tuck in my tees, there’s something extremely sophisticated about it, without being too stuffy. You can of course go the ankle bootie root, but I love it with high heels or open-toe strappy sandals.
If you’re feeling bold, wear it as a dress. Instead of styling it in its traditional way, as a jacket, belt it and wear it as a dress. This is a bold fashion move, but when done correctly, it can look chic and polished. This style of blazer will instantly emphasis your sexy legs and show-off your gorgeous figure. You can complete the look with some killer heels and a statement bag.
Let your blazer be the star of the show. Instead of reaching for those classic blazers in shades of black, neutrals, greys and navy, try investing in a fun pop of colour. A bright and vibrant shade like pink, red, orange or even neon is a sure way to have fun with this oversize trend. Yes, it will be a lot of colour, but it’s a sure way to add visual interest to any look.
Another hot trend this season is the slip-dress. While this trend may be a little too intimidating on its own, combining the two trends together, allows you to take a risk on fashion, without showing too much skin. You can still get that daring effect from the slinky and silky dress but feel covered up and comfortable in the oversize blazer.
