Eek… I cannot believe the first day of fall is already behind us. As much as I am a summer gal, autumn fashion get’s me the most excited. The layers, the chunky knits, the booties, fall fashion is my fave. With each new season, I like to invest in a few statement pieces, along with some everyday basics. Ones that can easily be mixed into my wardrobe, and items that can really amplify my look. Today I thought it would be fun to take you along on how I plan my fall wardrobe, and which tips and tricks I use to ensure I get the most out of my money.

Right before I head out to the store, or do any online shopping, I head to Pinterest. As much as I enjoy Instagram, I find it easier to navigate around Pins, rather than scroll my IG feed. I get 90% of my inspiration off that app. You can easily see the hottest trend and browse by season, colours, clothing pieces, etc. I love that I have the option of creating my own inspiration boards, so I can easily reference it when I’m out shopping. This is where I save outfits I want to recreate, pieces I want to add to my closet or even colour palettes I want to play with this season.

I’ve talked about this before, but in case you’re new here, I tend to plan my outfits days in advance. I like to have at least a few pre-planned outfits hanging in my wardrobe, for those days when I’m feeling less than creative. We’ve all had those moments of, “I have nothing to wear”, so I find having some looks I know I love/ look great in, really helps take some of the pressure off in the morning. With each new season, I take a few hours on a Sunday, to plan some fresh new outfits. This is also a perfect opportunity to take out those fall/ winter pieces that you may have tucked away for the hot summer months. Don’t dismiss last year’s items. Sometimes we pick up those sale items that we only had on once or twice, or we have those cult fave staples that will continue to shine for seasons to come. Just because we’re into a new year, doesn’t mean those beloved pieces are out of style/ date. Re-fall in love with you wardrobe again.

As I begin to plan some outfits, ones that I was inspired by Pinterest, or ones I am looking to experiment with, I take pictures of them on my phone. This not only allows me to know which pieces are still in style from last year and which items need to be donated or put into the trash, but I will have my own personal library of outfits I want to create during the week. It also gives me a general idea of new pieces I want to pick up. This helps for when I go shopping, as I will know which items I want to introduce into my wardrobe and which pieces I already have. We don’t need multiples, nor do we want to make costly purchases.

I will then start to create a fall wish-list. Whether that’s simply on the Pinterest app itself or my phone, having a general idea of pieces I want to add to my collection, is key to planning my fall wardrobe. Since I already have an idea of the styles I want to create this season, and the items I currently have, it makes my shopping list pretty easy. This allows me to focus on pieces I think are missing, items that need upgrading or simply new trends I want to try.

After deciding which pieces I need to pick up, I also start to pay attention to the colour palettes I’m going to play with this season. It’s no shocker that the majority of my wardrobe is pink, but every few months I try and introduce a new colour or two. Maybe this is in a print or pattern, or maybe it’s a new hue that I know will pair beautifully with pink, either way, sometimes we just need to know what looks good on us before we start to shop. Having a slightly monochromatic wardrobe makes creating outfits a breeze thought. If you have a closet filled with a rainbow of colours, although may sound ideal in theory, it can be a challenge to create looks around. Sticking with a few neutrals and playing around those, will leave your wardrobe filled with endless possibilities.
