Rumors that aren’t true about lip injections
The first thing that often comes to mind when you hear the words “lip injections” or “lip fillers” is usually duck lips or Angelina Jolie. We’ve all seen those botch jobs or ones that look too over-the-top and fake, but injectables don’t have to be scary. When done correctly, and in the hands of a professional, fillers can look incredibly natural and just enhance your features.
The stigma around cosmetic surgery and non-invasive procedures is still a controversial conversation for many, and until more people are educated on the topic, people will continue to be shamed for having “work done”. You know I’m always brutally honest with you guys and I hide nothing when it comes to the world of Botox, Fillers and Facials. I feel like I’ve built a strong community of open-minded people that and even though some of you don’t believe in getting work done, you don’t judge me for getting it. It’s a personal preference and I never encourage people to change something about their appearance without getting all the correct information first. It’s highly important to do your own research, and make sure it’s something you truly want done.
Cosmetic work is rising in popularity, but not everyone is speaking freely about it. So many people are misinformed when it comes to lip injections, that I thought I’d have a serious conversation with my beauty nurse. Yolanda Sharp RN, BScN is an advanced nurse injector with over 8 years of injecting experience. She works with one of Canada’s top plastic surgeons, Dr. Damir Matic MD MSc FRCS(C), and is a registered nurse. She specializes in lips and lip corrections, but also teaches others the art of injection correctly. She’s a skincare expert by trade and passion and performs both Botox and fillers to all areas of the face. Her gentle touch almost goes unnoticed and her expert eye ensures a natural and flawless finish. You can find her at London Plastic Surgery in London, where her highly educated staff and professional medical facility will make you feel right at home., Yolanda. We are here to debunk some of the myths about fillers and provide you with expect advice on the topic.
Although lip fillers are semi-permanent, I still hear the statement…if I hate the way my lips turn out, or if they look too big or bad, there is nothing I can do about it/ nothing I can do it fix it.
Although some fillers (depending on the brand) may take upwards of a year to naturally breakdown in the body, if you go with one that uses hyaluronic acid, your doctor/ nurse can use an eraser enzyme called hyaluronidase to immediately dissolve the filler. This way, if you’re unhappy with the way your lips turned out or it wasn’t what you envisioned, you can get your lips back to normal in no time.
Something else I hear all the time is, wont your lips stretch out with continuous use?
One of the main components of fillers is hyaluronic acid, a substance that’s naturally found in our bodies, therefore injecting your lips with this ingredient can help stimulate collagen production. As the filler starts to dissolve over the course of the year, the leftovers can actually help thicken your skin’s outer layer and prevent fine lines.
Everyone is going to be able to tell I have fillers, it will look unnatural.
I can speak from personal experience, that more than 90% of my friends can’t even tell when I get my lip fillers done. The key to looking natural is to have an honest conversation with your experienced doctor or nurse. It’s all about the technique they use, how much they inject and where they inject it.
It’s too painful. I often hear that my lips are extremely sensitive, and I can’t handle pain, therefore I’m not a good candidate for fillers.
This non-invasive treatment usually starts with a numbing cream, so you’ll barely feel a thing. Also, only a few injections are performed during the procedure, so it’s incredibly quick and virtually painless. Fillers also have built in numbing agent, making the treatment virtually painless. If anything, you’ll feel a few small pinches, but after it’s all said and done, you won’t experience any pain afterwards. As long as you’re choosing an experienced injector, like Yolanda, the need to erase your product or not being happy with your end result will likely not happen.
