Top 5 Myths About Coolsculpting

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my 6-month Coolsculpting journey with the lovely Heather from London Plastics. Because maintaining a fit and healthy body takes work and discipline, some are looking for other, non-invasive ways to remove unwanted body fat. Although Coolsculpting is NOT designed to be a weight loss tool, it’s a simple and easy, non-surgical way to reduce fat. With that, comes a lot of myths around the procedure, so today, Heather is here to debunk them and educate you on the benefits.

I was in good hands with Heather, as she’s a pharmacist by trade, but now the Managing Director for London Plastic Surgery and a Coolsculpting Master! Several years ago she changed career paths from the world of Pharmacy and began to focus on medical aesthetics after she saw the impact that this field had on her life. She was so excited by the changes, she wanted to help others. She lost over 100 lbs through healthy eating and exercising. With this weight loss, came a number of challenges. Her body has been reshaped with Coolsculpting, and because of this, she needed to know everything about this amazing technology.

It’s a replacement for a weight loss program?

Coolsculpting is not a replacement for a weight loss program. Nothing is a replacement for a weight loss program! Heather has lost over 120lbs, so she’s been there. It’s hard at first, but totally worth it. Heather started her Coolsculpting journey to help reshape her body after major weight loss. “When we lose weight, we do not always lose in the places we want to lose it.” Her arms and upper thighs were very stubborn, so she had Coolsculpting done on them!! This gave her the motivation to keep working!

She now has patients that are in the process of their weight loss journey and need a little help or encouragement. Weight loss journeys can be hard, long, and sometimes people need a little help!  She has treated people’s arms, chins and abdomens with great results. For these patients, Coolsculpting results gave them encouragement to keep going to reach their goals!
Myths About Coolsculpting

The results are instant?

Not too much in life is instant! Good things take time! Like Coolsculpting! The first couple of weeks after your Coolsculpting treatment you are swollen. We want this swelling! This swelling is your immune system coming in and eating up the dead fat. This is good inflammation!

The inflammation comes down around 2-3 weeks after a Coolsculpting treatment, then we begin to see results. Usually by the 6-week mark, patients have seen a considerable difference and full results in 3 months. Depending on the density of the fat and what area we treat, results can be a little quicker or a little longer. Like our arms, for example, take a little longer to see results than other areas. This is because we rely on our lymph system to clear the dead fat Coolsculpting has killed. There is less lymphatic drainage in certain areas like our arms, therefore takes a little longer!
Myths About Coolsculpting

It’s super painful, extremely cold and annoying?

Well, it is cold! We are freezing the fat to -11. That’s the magic number where the fat cells bust open and die! Luckily during freezing our nerves go numb and the pain is much more comfortable. So much so that people sleep or watch Netflix. When we take the applicator off, after the treatment is done, it can feel tingly and burnt. When we have reperfusion of warm blood into the area that was cold, it gives us the same sensation as if our foot was asleep and now waking up.  Patients feel a tingle or burn for about 2-3 minutes. Most people rate the treatment as a 2/10 so overall it isn’t too painful!

It’s only for those that have belly fat or belly concerns?

Coolsculpting works on many different areas, not just the abdomen! Coolsculpting works amazing on belly fat, arms, upper thighs, chin, flanks, under our bum, outer thigh, bra fat, back fat… so, so many areas to freeze!

You need months to recover?

Coolsculpting is considered a “no downtime” procedure! This means you can go back to work the next day or same day for some! The areas we freeze will feel like a bruise the next day and will be swollen. You can take home compression tops for after and Heather always asks people to wear compression clothing after treatment. This will help keep the swelling down and will overall make you feel better.
