The New Statement Sleeve
Tops or dresses with dramatic oversize shoulder and puffy sleeves are this season’s newest statement sleeve. You either love or hate this trend. This modern-day and slightly futuristic trend is quickly taking over the world. Unlike the bold sleeves of the 80’s, this voluminous and dramatic silhouette is balanced by more classic and simple accessories. It can be tricky to style, but when done correctly, it can be very chic and stylish.
A few tips and tricks can make styling a puffy sleeve effortless and easy. First, belt it. A wide or tied belt will create a soft and feminine silhouette and help bring balance to an otherwise boxy and slightly guyish frame. This will help offset the oversize shape of the sleeves.
If you’re wearing a voluminous top, opt for a slimmer bottom. If you’re styling a roomy dress, keep your shoes slim and streamlined. The idea is to create a natural curve and not look so boxy.
Final tip, if you’re not into a belt, look for high-waisted pants, shorts or skirts. This will instantly create curves, while keeping your body proportioned.
This Zara sky blue, poplin dress, with buckle belt tie, follows all my rules. The buckle belt helps to sinch in my waist and the slightly shorter hemline helps to elongate my legs and balance out the look.
