What To Wear This Valentine’s Day If You’re Staying In
February 1st marks the first day of love month. Although I don’t necessarily agree with everything that Valentine’s Day stands for, as I don’t think you need a specific day, to tell your loved ones how much you care, I do like all the cute décor and fashion that comes along with it. February 14th is probably one of the most popular days to schedule a date, whether that be a coffee date with friends, a romantic dinner with a new love interest or maybe even a special night on the town with your partner, depending on where you live, this year is going to look a little different. Some of us are on lockdown, while others don’t want to be in a crowded theatre or busy restaurant, and are looking for other ways to celebrate this “Hallmark” holiday.
For me personally, since it falls on a Sunday, and the hubby will be working. When he does arrive home, it will be a casual night in. Even though we won’t be leaving the house, I still wanna look cute. Although you’ll normally catch me in a lot of pink, there’s something about V-Day that just screams RED. The trick to having a casual, yet cute and girly outfit, is to play with feminine details. This could be a flouncy blouse, romantic silk or lace, maybe even a dreamy print or pattern. This allows you to dress cute without looking like you’re trying too hard. If you’re keeping the top soft and flirty, keep the bottom sleek and informal, like a pair of skinny or mom jeans. A lighter wash will obviously give the entire look a more relaxed and casual vibe, whereas a slightly darker wash with help elevate the look.
If you’re looking to dress up for the big day, while still keeping it simple and laidback, try a flowy daytime dress. Instead of reaching for that sexy little black dress, opt for something that you’d normally wear to brunch. Look for some in a print to keep it fresh and playful. You could also try a flowy skirt and basic graphic tee if you’re looking for it to be even more chilled and relaxed.
Don’t underestimate the power of a good matching sweatsuit. Loungewear has quickly become our uniforms, but matching your top to your bottoms is the easiest way to look right on trend. Maybe you want to treat yourself to a fresh set for the big day, in a holiday-inspired shade of red or pink? It’s an extremely wearable alternative to your basic jammy set. Although you can get one in fleece or cotton, you can “dress” it up a little with silk to satin. Very romantic. Pay close attention to your silhouette, although oversized and loose fitting is ideal when it comes to comfort, try finding one that’s fitted enough so you don’t look too sloppy, yet allows extra room for all that candy and champagne.
