You Need A Tutu

Tutu

Carrie Bradshaw made the tulle skirt incredibly popular when she paired it with a simple white tank in the sequence opener of Sex And The City. She took a simple tutu and transformed it into something incredibly chic. Ever since then, street-influencers have been going crazy for this look…myself included. I’m a not stranger to a tutu, but every time I style it, I get asked…how do you make it daytime appropriate? The key is not looking like you just left ballerina rehearsal, is to pair it with some killer heels. Since artists tend to wear ballerina flats when dancing, elevating you look with some heels is a sure way to difference yourself from the performers.

It’s important to look like you’re not playing dress-up, but it’s equally important to have fun with fashion. When styled correctly, a tutu can be extremely figure flattering. Although a tutu skirt is an excellent option to have fun with this trend, this Du North dress takes the guess work out of what to style with it. I love the simplicity of the tank-top style top, it gives the feeling of your favourite cotton tee without having to fuss with it to keep it tucked into your skirt.

As the temperatures rises this week, this tutu dress is a wonderful option. It instantly creates a fun and flirty look, without the trouble or hassle of mixing and matching several pieces in your wardrobe. The pale, soft pink paired with the crispness of the white gives the illusion of an almost monochromatic look with a bit of personality and flare. Sticking with neutral shades, or colours that are light and airy, gives a more “grownup” appeal and perfect for summer. This is the perfect feminine dress that plays on the tutu trend, without looking like a costume. It’s chic, elegant and will transition beautifully into fall, layered with a denim jacket or black moto bomber.
