Beauty Room/ Walk In Closet

Beauty Room/ Walk In Closet

Ever since my first Instagram post, about a year ago, about my new beauty room/ walk-in closet, people have been messaging me to see it, so here it is! After about 3 years of trying to talk the hubby into changing one of our spare rooms into my own personal beauty room, it’s finally done and I couldn’t be happier. Although it doesn’t hold all my clothes, my blazers and dresses are still in our master bedroom walk-in closet, it does hold most of my clothes and I love getting dressed in here every morning (I also do my hair and makeup in this room).

I hope this blog post gives you some ideas on how to organize your closet, gives you storage solutions and really just help with getting the most out of your clothes. All the furniture pieces are from Ikea, I love that nothing is built into the walls, so when, and if we move I can take everythig with me.

When you first walk in, to the left is where I keep my skirts, coloured pants and jeans and black, brown and flat shoes (oh and a few purses up top).

When I first started my blog almost 4 years ago, I started a system where I would tag all my clothes each and every time I wore them. It helps me keep track of how many times I’ve worn each item and also helps me utilize each piece in my closet so I’m not wearing the same thing over and over again. When I’m done wearing an item, its gets tagged with a number, (say 2nd, 3rd, 4th time I’ve worn it) and it gets placed at the back of the section (example jeans, sweaters, tops or skirts). This is also a good way for me to keep track of what you’ve worn, the items in the front are the ones I haven’t worn in a while and the ones in the back are the most recent.

To the right of my skirts and pants is my first wardrobe unit and is where I keep some of my shirts (on top) and sweaters (on the bottom), colour coordinated from lightest to darkest, with the ones in the front (of each colour section) being the ones I haven’t worn in awhile and the ones in the back being the ones I just had on. In the bottom drawer is where I keep all my nail polishes (and of course they too are colour coordinated).

In the middle of my two wardrobe units is a dresser where I keep my jewellery, folded sweaters and dress pants.

On the top of my dresser is where I keep some of my most used bracelets, my watches, a piggy bank that I got when I was born, a few other miscellaneous treasures.

Some of my bracelets and watches which I just store on cake or cookie trays.

Inside the top drawer is where I keep the rest of my bracelets and rings, I just used dollar stores boxes to help separate them and keep them organized.

To the right and left of the dresser, hanging on the wardrobe units, I’ve installed 3M Command large hooks to hang my necklaces from. I’ve placed 14 hooks on each unit and I can hang 4 necklaces on each hook, giving me enough space to hold over 100 necklaces. I’m in love with these hooks, have them all over the house, love that they leave no holes, marks or sticky residue and you can move them around as you need. Yes, my necklaces are colour
coordinated too!Beauty Room (12) Beauty Room (11)
To the right of my dresser is my other wardrobe unit and is where I keep my darker coloured shirts (on top) and sweaters (on bottom) with the ones in the front (of each colour section) being the ones I haven’t worn in awhile and the ones in the back being the ones I just had on. In the bottom drawer is just where I keep my bras and undies.

Under the window is where I do my makeup in the morning, on the top shelf is my most used cosmetics, brushes, creams and a mirror and underneath is a basket filled with scarfs, another basket filled with un-opened cosmetics, some books and most of my denim.

Making your way around to the other side of the room is the rest of my shoes and my purses.

I used an Ikea bookcase to hold 45 pairs of shoes!

And finally more 3M Command large hooks to hang my skinny belts, the larger belts are placed in a drawer.

wow!, this walk in closet is serious! Def. inspired by this, will be moving into my own condo next year and got an den for this purpose, can’t wait. The tagging of the clothes is a good idea, but how do you keep them from falling off the items?

ooh new place and new beauty room, you’re going to love it. I love having my own space, the hubby never comes in, I can be as creative as I like. Ooh sorry as far as the tags go, I cute paper into squares, punch a hole at the top, add some rope to it and then hang it over the top of the hanger

Soooooooo glad you finally did this post!! What a great space. My husband is always saying no one else has as much stuff as I do. I can’t wait to show him this and say, “See? Women have lots of stuff!!”

I know, I’ve been putting it off for a year now, you know how some people can be so mean, didn’t want them to think I’m “showing off”, just wanted to share my ideas with others and hope to inspire and give them new storage solutions.
