Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick Review

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick Review

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick which came out in Fall 2012 claims to have a “richly pigmented and silky smooth matte lip color that delivers 14 hours of continuous wear without flaking or dryness; has skin-conditioning emollients, antioxidant fruit extracts, cili fruit, goji berry, Vitamins A,C & E to protect lips throughout the day”.

They come in 9 beautiful shades, Ballet (a vibrant, but light pink), Edition (a soft pink/gold), Canvas (a soft rose gold), Empress (an eggplant/ deep aubergine), Riviera (a tangerine), Rose (a medium rose neutral), Icon (a blue red), Muse (a coral red) and Raven (an orange red).

These provide a long-wearing, full coverage colour that lasts all day. It comes in a flattened gunmetal-bronze plastic tube, definitely clutch-friendly, like a lip gloss and has a soft doe-foot sponge applicator for applying. You can feel great knowing it’s made without any parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances or dyes, phthalates or triclosan..

I got to test out Icon and Riviera and found both colours to be extremely opaque and the pigmentation is incredible. You don’t need to apply a lot of product to get great colour payoff, no need to build up the layers, one sweep and you’re good to go. It applies easily and sets to a matte finish within 20 seconds. Although I haven’t had the chance to wear it for 14+ hours, I did apply it right after breakfast and by lunch time (after 4-5 hours later) the colour is still there. It continued to look decent after eating lunch, but by dinner time you could see the wear and would need to remove and reapply. These don’t seem to have any scent and no tackiness left on the lips at all.
DSC_0474DSC_0478 Because they contain some conditioning emollients, for moisture, they aren’t as drying as most matte lipsticks, but for those of us who need a little extra hydration on their lips you might want to think about applying a lip balm underneath / and or a gloss over top for some extra moisture.

I really love both colours I have; they don’t bleed or budge on the lips, both are super opaque and have a smooth texture that glides onto the lips effortlessly. It’s long lasting staying power means less time touching up your look and also less product used, saving you money. The price for these beauties might seem a little high at $33 for 0.1oz/3g, but I swear you use half the product and they last twice as long as regular lipsticks.
70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Jessica Alba looked stunning in tangerine on the red carpet for the Golden Globes rocking a stunning gown by Oscar de la Renta and makeup by Hourglass. She was wearing Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, followed by Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. She had on Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Warm under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose and fanned the product out in the center of the forehead to create dimension. She also had on the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light applied all over to create a golden, subtle warmth.  On the cheeks were Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and followed with the blush shade on the apples of the cheeks.  Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso was first applied to the outer corners of the eyes and then smudged it with a brush. Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer was applied to the crease of the eyes and the gold shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune on the lids. Lashes were treated to several coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. Finished the look by amplifying the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette. Finally, Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera, a vibrant tangerine shade, was applied to the lips.

So as you can see, if Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera is good enough for Jessica, its good enough for me!
